A Guide to Shopping on eBay

I love shopping on eBay. It's my go-to place to find things I want for cheap! But when it comes to buying things online, you always have to be careful. Though I have never had an issue with an online purchase before, there are definitely scammers out there. I thought I'd share with you guys my shopping "procedure" to ensure I don't run into problems with my purchase and get the best deal possible. :)

Searching
When I search for the item I want, I first like to sort it by "ending soonest" to see if I can snag a good deal. Sometimes, you can find cheap items that are ending in a few minutes, but I'm usually not that lucky so I continue to sort it by "price + shipping: lowest first". The cheapest items usually are auctions that have around 6 days remaining. So for those, I recommend putting them on your watch list and keeping an eye out for them. Sometimes, the bids get too high and it's just not worth it so I will look for the product from another seller. I usually put multiple listings of the same item on my watch list to see which one ends up being cheapest and then I try to bid on that one.

Bidding
You want to keep track of the prices but don't bid right away! It can start a bid war and then the item will cost way more than you want to buy it for. I like to wait until literally the last 30 seconds or so to make my bid, haha!

Buy It Now
If the item I want either gets so expensive that it's almost the same price as the "buy it now" price, or I keep losing the bid, I will just choose the Buy It Now option. Some sellers will have the same products up, except some are bids (which generally start at lower prices) and then buy it now (which is full price).

Prices That Seem Too Good to be True?
Sometimes, I'll see an item and think "wow look how cheap that is!" Always look at the shipping cost. Maybe the listed price for an item is $5, but then the shipping cost is some ridiculous amount like $30. This is just the seller trying to make their products look really cheap and may trick some people into buying it if they aren't extra observant. I like to go for free shipping as often as possible.

Fakes
If you're buying anything designer like purses or high end makeup, be careful. There are people who will sell you a fake product and charge you a lot for it! I try to avoid buying stuff like that. If you absolutely have to though, see if they have good evidence that it's real, like labels of authenticity. Once you receive the item, you might also want to do a quick google search on "how to tell whether ____ is real or fake". If you find that yours is actually fake, you want to contact the seller immediately and ask for a refund. You might even have to do a Paypal dispute. If the seller is avoiding you, be persistent! Do not give up and settle for your fake product. You deserve to get what you paid for.

Okay, so now I am searching for items. I searched for "Etude House" and clicked on this item. I've circled the important details you want to go over.

The most important thing is to check how reliable the seller is. Look at the seller information box and see what their positive feedback percentage is. This seller has very good feedback. Anything under 98% I would be careful about. I would probably consider buying from someone else if the positive feedback wasn't high enough. You can also click on the number next to their name and read previous buyers' comments.

Next, check the item condition. I prefer all my things to be new, but that's just a preference.
Then check the shipping price, item location, and where the seller ships to. In this case, shipping is free (yay!), it comes from South Korea, and ships worldwide. Sounds pretty good to me. :)
You might also want to take a look at the return policy in case you're not satisfied with the item. The seller states that buyers can get a refund within 60 days of their purchase, but they have to pay for the return shipping.

And that's about it! I hope this guide was helpful to you if you're not very familiar with eBay. Don't be afraid to purchase things online! You can find amazing deals –you just have to be a smart shopper too. :3
