Money Saving Tips!

I love shopping, and as bad as it sounds, I probably buy things every week or two. However, I am super careful with my spending and I use several money saving methods so my weekly purchases are actually quite affordable. I hope this post will offer some insight so you can save a lot of money next time you shop!

Shop sales and clearance
This tip is pretty much a given, but I buy a lot of my clothes from the sales and clearance sections at places such as Forever 21 and H&M. If you look hard enough, you can find some really cute stuff for less than $10. I don't buy a lot of full priced clothing there unless it's a reasonable price or it's something I really want. This alone saves a lot of money.

Avoid the stores if necessary!
If you desperately need to save money but have a penchant for shopping, my best advice for you is to avoid stores entirely. You can curb your appetite for spending if you don't put yourself near stores, so don't go to malls and don't look at online stores –it will just tempt you to buy things. If I'm running low on cash, I just don't shop until I make some extra money. I put most of it aside in savings.

Use cash, not cards!
It's really easy to lose sight of spending if you use debit or credit cards. It just feels like a magical piece of plastic that lets me spend unlimited amounts! Use cash because you can physically see how much you have left. When your wallet starts getting empty, you know you've spent enough. You will feel less tempted to shop if you can see how much money you are actually spending.

Try eBay first
eBay often has the same products at a cheaper price! Check out my Guide to Shopping on eBay for more helpful tips on getting the best deal possible. :)

Every penny counts
Whenever I get change, I store it in my jar. Once it gets full, I go to the grocery store and use one of those Coinstar machines to exchange it for bills! Here's my current jar –it's only about halfway full but there's already over $20 in it!

Use coupons
Use coupons every opportunity you have. If you're shopping online, never finalize the purchase without referring to a coupon code site first. Retailmenot.com is my favorite website. Just search for the store you're shopping on and there you will find tons of online promo codes to save money, get free gifts with purchase, get free shipping, etc. Another website I've heard of is ebates.com. I haven't tried it yet, but I've seen lots of beauty and fashion gurus on youtube refer to this site before. You get discounts and sometimes cash back! The deals change every day.

I hope you found these tips helpful! Also check out my Summer Staples post as your shopping guide for this season. :)

  6. “...I just don't shop until I make some extra money.” - This kind of attitude can make a lot of difference on saving money. Sometimes the reason people go bankrupt is they spend money more than what they earn. If you can't change your lifestyle then you should be making extra money to buy more. Thank you for sharing your tips!
